Most valuable things everyone should know?

It's that time of the year: exams and results. I saw a video today, quite popular I guess.

A boy, very nervous and apprehensive, tries avoiding eye contact with his parents at the dining table.

His father, who looks calm, asks him about his result.

“Let him eat first” says his mother.

“He's not eating anyways. Go get your report card.” The father says, still very calm and cool.

The boy gets up and brings his report card to his father. He looks so embarrassed, so guilty for disappointing his parents.

The boy tells his father about his rank in his class. 49th.

There were 50 students in his class.

He prepares himself to face the wrath of his father. But surprisingly, his father just signs the report card and gives it back. He looks at his father, surprised, waiting for him to say something.

“You know, the thing about the person who always gets the first rank..” his father says

Being the second best is like a demotion for that person. Being ranked first, even once, means that there is always a pressure to maintain that position.

The person who failed has nothing to lose. They can't get worse but they can get better.

“Failure is an event, never a person.”
